This guide covers how to create Mention Streams but if you'd like our AI Assistant to help you with this - find out more here.
Creating a Mention Stream
Mention Streams can be created in three ways, by clicking on the Action Button on the Launchpad, ✚ button on the purple sidebar, or by scrolling to the end of your Mention Streams and clicking ‘Create a New Mention Stream in this Group’.
You can populate your new Mention Stream using a simple Keyword Search or Advanced Keyword Search (this includes Boolean).
Building a Mention Stream using a Keyword Search
To begin building your Mention Stream, input your keyword(s).
Search will allow you to input your keywords. There is a ‘Must Include All Of These Terms’, ‘AND ANY Of These Terms’, ‘NOT These Terms’
There is a Boolean Query Preview to see your Keyword(s) search as a Boolean Search which can be copied/pasted.
Once your keywords have been entered, use the ‘Across These Media Types’ area to select the news sources you are interested in monitoring.
If your goal is to pull coverage from specific sources, add them in the ‘Include/Exclude Sources’ fields.
The lightning icon is where can apply filters to our Boolean search. For example, case sensitivity or coverage by a specific author.
AI Suggested Keywords
AI Keyword Suggestion helps users create more effective Mention Streams by automatically suggesting relevant keywords and exclusions based on their initial input when creating a new Mention Stream.
Enter keywords in the search box. Then press enter or select the "Suggest" button to produce Keyword Suggestions.
Enter a keyword to search for, click Suggest and you’ll see suggested terms to add to your search.
AI automatically suggests related terms below the search box, including:
Word variations

Current events
Click suggested tags to add them to your search
You can refresh the suggestions and provide feedback on the suggestions via the thumbs up/down.
AI Keywords FAQ
AI Keywords FAQ
What AI technology powers the keyword suggestions? The feature is powered by Google's Gemini models and has been specifically trained and optimised for keyword analysis and content relevance.
What data are you feeding the AI model? The AI model only receives the keywords you enter in the suggestion interface. No other data from your account or streams is used to generate suggestions.
How are you training the AI model? The AI model is trained using user feedback and observed Mention Stream patterns to improve suggestion accuracy.
Can I disable or turn off the AI Mention Stream Suggestions Feature? Yes, you can turn off AI suggestions for an entire organisation using the relevant feature flag inside Admin. However, you are not able to turn it off on the user level.
Are my Mention Stream searches and feedback data stored? We only store keyword search data when you provide feedback. This includes your user ID, keyword input, suggested keywords, feedback response (thumbs up/down with reason), search date, and keyword suggestion type (Simple or Advanced). We use this data solely to observe and optimise the model's performance.
What happens when the AI is unable to produce any results? In cases where the AI cannot generate suggestions, the system will display a message indicating no results were found. You can try modifying your keywords to be more specific or use different terms related to your search.
What happens if there is an error? If an error occurs during the AI suggestion process, you'll see an error message with details that something went wrong. Simply try your search again, and if the error persists, contact Technical Support and submit a ticket via Jira for assistance. Our team monitors all Technical Support Tickets and will work quickly to resolve any technical issues.
Are the AI results tailored to individual clients or trained on client-specific data? No, the AI model is not client specific and does not provide results tailored to individual clients. A single model is used for all clients, and any feedback provided helps improve the overall model for everyone. This ensures consistent, unbiased performance across all clients.
How does the feedback get processed to update the AI model? All feedback is sent to the product team for review. The team uses this input to assess performance and make any necessary adjustments to improve the model over time.
How often is the AI model updated or adjusted? The AI model is regularly reviewed based on feedback submitted in the platform to ensure results remain accurate and relevant. There is no set cadence for these reviews but updates will be made as necessary to maintain performance.
Im clicking regenerate but my suggestions are the same? New keyword suggestions will only be produced when the keywords have changed. If the input keywords are the same and you are attempting to regenerate, it will produce the same results.
How does the AI model handle sensitive or inappropriate content? Google's Gemini Vertex AI uses four configurable safety categories — Hate Speech, Harassment, Sexually Explicit Content, and Dangerous Content — to evaluate whether an input is classified as Safe or Unsafe. We have set the model to the highest safety level, meaning that most content falling into these categories will be flagged as sensitive and show the appropriate error message. Additionally, we've implemented safeguards within the prompt to prevent the AI from generating responses that include sensitive content.
Does the AI model support multiple languages? The AI is designed to respond in the language of the user's input, and it generally performs well with languages that use distinct scripts. However, it may encounter difficulties with languages that use the same script as English, occasionally defaulting to English instead of maintaining the input language.
We can select the Media Types we’d like the Mention Stream to track.
Include/Exclude Sources
When using the Include Sources filter, you add the specific source(s) you would like to see coverage from.
You will see results with the names of matching outlets and to the right, the media type will be displayed. For example, BBC is a Source Group, Online, Radio and TV. When selecting specific sources, please pay attention to the media type displayed on the right and ensure you have selected the appropriate Media Types in the Media Type Filters.
When using the Include Source filter, some outlets will display ‘Source Group’ next to them. Source Groups act as parent publishers that individual sources may be a part of (News Corp, ABC, etc).
For example, if you only want to see coverage from BBC Future (an Online source), you would need to ensure that only Online is is selected in your Media Type filters.
