How can I use Mention Stream Filters to search and filter coverage?

Mention Stream Filters can be accessed by the Funnel Icon at the top of any Mention Stream in Stream View. In List View, we’ll find the Advanced Filters at the top.

Mention Stream Filters allow you to locate news coverage based on:

Content:

  • Keywords - search for specific keywords within an article

  • Sources - find coverage from certain publications, websites, broadcast media

  • Media Types - filter by Online, Print etc.

  • Date Range - find coverage from a specific time period

  • Sort - control how coverage is displayed and choose between ascending or descending

We can apply Advanced Filters wherever see the dials/Advanced Filters buttons.

Advanced Filters

Keywords

MUST INCLUDE - only finds coverage which mentions the specific keyword(s)

AND ANY - coverage containing any of the keyword(s)

NOT these terms - excludes coverage containing the keyword(s)

We can also see Boolean Query Preview on this screen to see how this would look using Boolean.

To apply the filter, click on Confirm.

Media Types

We can filter by:

Online, Print, TV, Radio, Magazine

Location - the location of the source the coverage was published in

Category - Regional, National or Industry news

Domain Authority - choose from Low, Average, Good, Strong, Excellent

To apply the filter, click on Confirm

Sources

We can filter by:

Keyword

Location

Sector

Source Group - sources are grouped by their publisher. For example, BBC would yield results for all BBC outlets such as BBC One, BBC Two, etc.

Media Type

Once the filter is applied, you will see any matching coverage displayed and at the top right, you’ll see how many pieces of coverage match your criteria.

To apply the filter, click on Confirm

Upon using any of the advanced filters, the filters will apply only to the corresponding media type. For example, if category is set to “Regional” for Online content then Online content will be filtered by that category however all other content across all other selected media types will appear. In order to apply granular filters to all media types, use the “Apply to all media types applicable” button.

Content

We can filter by:

NLA or CLA Content - tick/untick as appropriate

Language - include/exclude specific languages

Tag - include/exclude specific tags

Author - coverage by specific journalist(s)

Word Count - minimum/maximum for words in the article

Page Number - range of pages the article appeared on

To apply the filter, click on Confirm

Date Range

We can use presets or set a custom from/to date range using the calendar function.

Metrics

Totals or Devices - select via the option at the top of the screen.

Audience - minimum/maximum

Advertising Value Equivalent - minimum/maximum

Sentiment - Negative, Trending Negative, Balanced, Positive, Trending Positive, No Rating

Impact Score - Low, Medium, High

React Score - Filter by the average score or React Categories.

React score categories:

React score models are grouped into 4 higher level categories for ease of analysis: controversy, emotionality, harm & spam.

  • Controversy is comprised of a weighted average from our Hyper partisanship, Satire, Controversy and Fake News models.

  • Emotionality is comprised of a weighted average from our Sentiment, Emotion, Sarcasm and Subjectivity models.

  • Harm is comprised of a weighted average from our Racism, Sexism, Hate Speech, Insult, Obscenity, Toxicity, and threat models.

  • Spam is comprised of a weighted average from our Clickbait and Spam models.

Other

We can exclude External Items (coverage we’ve added to CisionOne manually). Alternatively, we can only show External Items in our results.
