Google Analytics Integration

This integration allows users to visualise their website traffic alongside their mention volume for selected streams in Instant Insights and Social Analyse.

Setup

There is now a Google Analytics option on the Integrations page in the platform. This works on a per-organisation basis, and any user from an organisation can set it up or remove it.

We firstly ask users to add a “service account” for Streem/Cision to their Google Analytics account. The service account acts on behalf of our platform and has view-only permission to get data from the Google Analytics account.

Secondly users will need to enter the GA4 Property ID and Stream ID that they wish to track, along with the URL for the Stream ID to identify it. The IDs can be found in the Google Analytics platform itself; users can then enter these on the Integrations page and create the integration.

Once created, we show the details on the Integrations page:

Note: we do not support the older type of Google Analytics properties, called Universal Analytics.

Charts and data export

Once connected a new chart appears in Instant Insights / Social Analyse dashboards which plots mention volume with website traffic for all selected streams. For new dashboards it will be enabled in the chart selection dropdown by default when there is a connection to Google Analytics. For existing dashboards, the chart will be disabled. Users can remove the chart from any dashboard by deselecting it as usual.

The overlaid line on the chart represents the website traffic data and uses the “Active Users”/ “Users” metric from Google Analytics, which represents the total number of unique users who engaged with the website. More details about GA4 User Metrics here.

Similar to Coverage Volume and Potential Audience Reach, users can click on each bar of the chart to view mentions for that time bucket and click on the overlaid line to view the raw data.

This chart will also be included in the PDF export of an Instant Insights / Social Analyse dashboard. Social Analyse also has the option to generate an XSLS export of the raw data, and there will be a new sheet in this for the “Mentions and Website Traffic Timeline” data.

When a Google Analytics Integration is not connected via the Integrations page the charts are available in Instant Insights / Social Analyse but they are disabled for new dashboards. If a user chooses to enable it the chart will display mention volume without the overlaid line of website traffic data. There is a call to action to set up the integration at the top of the chart.
