Google Analytics integration allows you to visualise website traffic alongside media mentions in Instant Insights charts. This guide explains how to set up and manage integrations, including support for multiple Google Analytics accounts.

Multiple Google Analytics Accounts

CisionOne now supports multiple Google Analytics (GA) accounts, properties, and data streams, enabling organisations to track mentions across multiple websites, apps, or domains. This enhancement is ideal for agencies and enterprise-level organisations with complex client structures.

Key Benefits

  • Multi-Account Support: Connect multiple GA accounts and properties for comprehensive tracking.

  • Workspace Alignment: Scope GA data per workspace so teams only see relevant traffic.

  • Quick Setup: Automatic retrieval of accounts, properties, and streams via the Google Analytics API—no manual ID lookups required.

Integration Workflow

1. Google Analytics Integration Setup

  1. Navigate to Organisation Integrations Settings and click Add New Integration.

  2. Complete the OAuth flow to grant read-only access to GA data.

  3. Select which GA accounts to activate using the Activate toggle.

  4. Assign access to workspaces or organisation-wide.

  5. Choose properties and streams to expose using checkboxes.

  6. Save your changes.

2. Instant Insights Chart Configuration

  • When adding or editing charts (e.g., Mentions & Website Traffic Timeline), select exposed GA properties or streams from the dropdown.

  • Combine data from an entire property or select individual streams.

Integration Check:

  • If no integration is available to the user's workspace, they will see a prompt to ask the user to integrate.

If new integrations exist, the edit sidebar opens.

Data Selection: A dropdown appears, listing all the Properties and Streams that have been exposed to the user.

  • Options include combining data from an entire Property or selecting an individual Stream.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

  • Who can set up integrations? All user roles.

  • Are integrations set up per Organisation or per Workspace?

    • If your organisation has team workspaces, each Google Analytics account can be assigned to different workspaces. Otherwise, active Google Analytics accounts will show across the entire organisation.

  • What is the limit on how many connections I can have?

    • There is no limit to the total number of Google Analytics Accounts, Properties, or Streams your organisation can connect.

    • However, charts in Instant Insights are currently limited to displaying a maximum of one data point at a time.

  • What happens when the connection token expires?

    • If an OAuth token is expired, the charts in Instant Insights will display an error message and provide an action button for the owner to re-authenticate.

  • What kind of data access does CisionOne require?

    • The OAuth flow explicitly requests read-only access to your Google Analytics data, ensuring we can only pull reporting metrics and not modify any of your settings.

  • What happens to my old Google Analytics Integration?

    • Legacy Google Analytics Integrations will remain for a couple of months post-release to allow users to transfer to the new system. Charts set up via the legacy integration will also remain. Once the user sets up the new Google Analytics integration, they must configure any new charts with the new integration.

  • Who is considered the 'owner' of an integration?

    • The user who sets up (authenticates) the Google Analytics account is designated as the owner. Only the owner can refresh or delete the integration.

  • Can an integration be shared or used by multiple users?

    • Yes. Once an integration is set up by the owner, other users in the same organisation or assigned workspace (if applicable) can use the connected Properties and Streams to create charts in Instant Insights. However, only the owner handles re-authentication or deletion of the integration.
