Social Stream notifications can be updated at any time after they are created. You can edit notification settings, update recipients, review delivery options, and manage notification subscriptions to ensure alerts continue to reach the right people.
Accessing and viewing notifications
You can access Social Stream notifications from either:
The Notifications tab within a Social Stream.
Account menu > Notifications, which displays all notifications you have access to across streams in a single location.
From the Notifications tab within a Social Stream:
Open the Social Stream (from Monitoring or Launchpad).
Select the cogwheel icon in the upper-right corner of the Social Stream, and then select Notifications to view all notifications associated with that stream.
From Account menu > Notifications
Open the Account menu.
Select Notifications to view and manage all notifications you have access to across Social Streams and Social Streams from a single location.
The Notifications page displays all notifications across streams in a single location. It displays the Stream name, Notification type, Delivery method, Media types or social platforms, Slack channel (if configured), Mention scope, Recipient count, and Notification status.
From this page, you can view notification details, manage recipients, edit notifications, pause or resume notifications, delete notifications, and create new notifications.
Pausing and resuming specific notifications
While a notification is active, a green dot appears next to the pause icon. When a notification is paused, the pause icon changes to a play icon with a red dot, indicating that the notification is inactive. Select the pause or play icon at any time to pause or resume an individual notification.
Pausing and Resuming all account notifications
Turn off the Notifications are On toggle to temporarily pause all notifications across your account. Notification settings are preserved and can be reactivated at any time by turning the toggle back on.
Creating a notification
You can create notifications from a Social Stream or from the Notifications page available through the Account menu > Notifications. From the Notifications page, select Add Notification to create a new notification. For detailed instructions, see:
Creating New Mention notifications for streams in Social and Creating Spike notifications for streams in Social.
Editing a Notification
You can edit a notification to change its type, customization settings, delivery methods, recipients, or sender information.
To edit a notification:
Open the Notifications page from the Account menu, or open a Social Stream and select the Notifications tab.
Locate the notification you want to update and select the pencil icon.
Update the settings in each step of the notification workflow as required:
Delivery: Update delivery methods, recipients, and Send As settings
For example, update the Send As field if you want notifications to be sent from a different email address or domain.
4. Save your changes.
Managing recipients
You can add or remove notification recipients without changing the notification’s other settings.
To manage recipients:
Open the Notifications tab.
Locate the notification.
In the Recipients column, select the recipient management icon.
Add or remove recipients as needed.
Note: Email notifications can be sent to:
Internal users
Distribution lists
External recipients without platform access.
5. Select Save.
Tip: Changing recipients does not change the notification’s thresholds, filters, or delivery methods.
Deleting a notification
You can permanently delete a notification from the Notifications list.
Warning: Deleting a notification permanently removes its configuration and recipient settings.
To permanently remove a notification:
Locate the notification you want to delete in the Notifications list.
Select the trash icon in the Actions column.
In the confirmation dialog, review the message.
Select Confirm to permanently delete the notification or select Cancel to keep it.
Understanding the external recipient opt-in workflow
External recipients must opt in before they can receive New Mention notifications. This requirement does not apply to Spike notifications. To opt in to New Mention notifications, the external recipient must:
Open the opt-in email received for the New Mention notification.
Select the Receive New Mention Alerts link in the email to confirm the subscription. A confirmation page similar to the one shown below is displayed, confirming that the alert subscription has been successfully saved and that the recipient will begin receiving New Mention Notifications.
Note: Notification delivery remains paused until the external recipient completes the opt-in process.
Understanding the unsubscribe workflow
Every notification email, including New Mention and Spike notifications, includes a dedicated Unsubscribe link in the footer.
Notification recipients can unsubscribe from a specific notification by completing the following steps:
Locate the notification email you want to unsubscribe from.
Select the Unsubscribe link in the email footer.
The system removes them from alerts for that specific stream and notification type. Any alerts received for other streams or notification types remain active and are not affected.
Note: The unsubscribe workflow is available only to recipients who are not the owner of the notification.
Reviewing notification emails
Notification emails provide details about the notification and the activity that triggered it. Depending on the notification type, emails may include:
Notification title
Coverage volume chart (for Spike Notifications)
Social Stream name
Platforms and topics
Notification type
Date and time, including the time zone
View Social Stream button
Unsubscribe link
