A keyword snippet is a set of keywords, or a complex Boolean query, that you save and reuse when creating or editing streams. Instead of copying and pasting the same query across multiple streams, use a keyword snippet to simplify your workflow and keep queries clean and easy to read.
Keyword snippets are available in both Monitoring and Social, but they're platform-locked: snippets created in Monitoring only work in Monitoring, and snippets created in Social only work in Social.
Keep the following in mind when working with keyword snippets:
Build mode | Keyword snippets can be created using either build mode, Keywords (advanced search) or Boolean query. |
Where you can apply them | Keyword snippets can only be applied when you create or edit a mention stream or social stream. They are not available in advanced filters or any other keyword filtering options. |
Workspace scope | Snippets are scoped to team workspaces. A snippet created in one workspace isn't visible or accessible in another. |
Where you manage them | Manage all your snippets from the Keyword Snippets management page found in Organization settings. |
You can create a keyword snippet in two ways:
Manual creation (via the Keyword Snippets tab)
Turn an existing query into a keyword snippet (directly from a Stream View)
Creating a keyword snippet via the Keyword Snippets tab
Select the profile icon (top left), then select Organization.
Select Keyword Snippets.
The Keyword Snippets page lists all saved snippets in a grid with the following columns: Name, Description, Group, Mention Streams (usage count), and Owner.Select New Keyword Snippet.
Define the name, description, and group for the snippet.
Choose a build mode – Keywords or Boolean query.
Use the Preview panel to check the coverage the query fetches before saving.
Select Confirm to save the snippet. It's added to the Keyword Snippets page.
Turning an existing query into a keyword snippet directly from a Stream View
Any query can be turned into a keyword snippet. The Turn into Keyword Snippet button is available when you create or edit a stream under Advanced Search Options.
Turn your query into a keyword snippet in any of the following scenarios:
While creating a mention stream
Turn your keywords into a keyword snippet by selecting Turn into Keyword Snippet.
Turn your Boolean query into a keyword snippet by selecting Turn into Keyword Snippet.
While editing a mention stream
Turn your existing keywords into a keyword snippet by selecting Turn into Keyword Snippet.
Turn your existing Boolean query into a keyword snippet by selecting Turn into Keyword Snippet.
The entire query is automatically copied into a new snippet creation window.
Define the Name, Description, and Group for the snippet.
Use the Preview panel to check the coverage the query fetches before saving.
Note: When turning a search query into a keyword snippet, any filters applied to the Mention Stream are not taken into account when generating the preview.
Select Confirm to save the snippet.
Creating a keyword snippet from a query doesn't automatically replace that query with the snippet. To apply the new keyword snippet, insert it into the search query manually. For more information, see Applying Keyword Snippets to Streams.
