Sentiment analysis rates Media Items on a 5-point scale: Positive, Trending Positive, Balanced, Trending Negative, and Negative, based on scores assigned to a piece of coverage by our AI models. Monitoring provides two layers of sentiment analysis for your content: article-level sentiment and entity-level sentiment. Together, these give you both a high-level read on an article's tone and a more granular view of how specific entities, such as people, locations, brands, and organizations, are portrayed within it.
Article-level sentiment: An overall sentiment score for the entire article, which you can manually adjust.
Entity-level sentiment: Individual sentiment scores for specific entities (people, locations, brands, organizations) mentioned within the article, currently view-only.
Comparison at a glance:
| Article-level sentiment | Entity-level sentiment |
What it measures | Overall sentiment of the entire article | Sentiment of individual entities (people, locations, brands, organizations) mentioned within the article |
Editable? | Yes, you can manually adjust the rating | No, currently view-only |
Availability | Available on all content | Available where entities have been detected and entity-sentiment has run on that content type |
Sentiment data is available in two places:
The Mention Card view
The Full Media Item View
When you select the Monitoring module in CisionOne, you can view Mention Stream View for a group, the default view option. A group can contain several mention streams, each displaying its Media Items as mention cards. Each stream's cards are arranged together in a single column.
Each mention card displays the headline, source name, and publication date. It also has key metrics, including Audience, AVE, Sentiment, React Score, Impact Score, and Social Amplify.
Viewing and updating sentiment via the Mention Card view
In the modal, you'll see:
The overall article-level sentiment, which you can update by clicking the associated dropdown and selecting a value you find more appropriate.
A list of detected entities, each with its own sentiment score (view-only).
Note: If no entities are detected, or entity level sentiment isn't available for that content type, the modal will display only article level sentiment.
Viewing and updating sentiment via the Full Media Item view
You can access the full media item view in two ways:
Select the ellipsis icon on a Mention Card and select View Full Media Item to open the sentiment analysis in a larger modal.
2. From the sentiment modal on a Mention Card, select the diagonal-arrow icon that takes you straight to the Full Media Item modal.
Once opened, select the Article Sentiment tab to view the full entity-level sentiment analysis.
This modal displays the same article-level and entity-level sentiment information as the Mention Card view, including the ability to update the article-level sentiment by clicking the associated dropdown and selecting a value you find more appropriate.
In an expanded layout, this makes it easier to review articles with many detected entities.
