Notifications help you stay informed about important coverage activity without the need to continuously monitor your streams. You can create notifications for both Mention Streams and Social Streams to receive alerts when new content is added or when unusual increases in coverage activity occur.
Notifications support proactive monitoring and can help you:
Detect potential crises through sudden increases in coverage activity.
Monitor changes in brand reputation and sentiment.
Track campaign performance and engagement.
Monitor competitor and industry activity.
Stay informed about high-priority coverage as it happens.

FAQs for notifications
How is a spike calculated?
The system calculates a rolling average based on the preceding 30-day window. It then continuously compares new data against this average:
Social: Data from the past 1 hour is evaluated.
Monitoring: Data from the past 3 hours is evaluated.
If the number of mentions exceeds the threshold configured in the notification, a spike alert is triggered.
Can there be multiple spikes in the same day?
Yes. Multiple spikes can be generated on the same day. However, spikes cannot be triggered consecutively.
For example, if a monitoring spike is generated for a mention stream at 10:00 AM, the next spike can only be generated after the monitoring look-back period has elapsed.
For a Monitoring Spike with a 3-hour look-back period, the sequence would be:
10:00 AM: A spike is generated.
1:00 PM: The next check occurs, but another spike cannot be triggered since the look back period for a monitoring spike is 3 hours.
4:00 PM: The next check occurs after the full 3-hour period, so a new spike can be generated if the spike conditions are met.
This logic is designed to prevent users from receiving an excessive number of spike email notifications within a short period.
What content is included in the AI summarization?
The AI summary in email includes content ingested during the applicable look-back period:
Social: Content ingested in the past 1 hour
Monitoring: Content ingested in the past 3 hours
Is the opt-in and unsubscribe workflow available for Spike Notifications?
An opt-in workflow is not available for Spike Notifications for external users.
The opt-in workflow was introduced specifically for New Mention Notifications because high-volume streams can generate thousands of notifications in a day. This allows users to choose whether they want to receive a potentially large number of notifications. However, the unsubscribe workflow is available to all users for both notification types:
Note:
Opt-in: Available only for New Mention notifications and external users.
Unsubscribe: Available for all users across both New Mention notifications and Spike notifications.
