Geographic Charts in Instant Insights
Overview
Instant Insights provides multiple geographic charts designed to help you analyse coverage across different location levels. These charts separate regional, country, state, and city data to ensure each view reflects the correct level of geographic detail.
This guide explains how geographic charts work, what each chart represents, and how they help you interpret coverage distribution across your dashboards.
Available Geographic Charts
Instant Insights displays geographic information using four primary chart types. Each chart presents data based on a specific location category:
City-level charts – Show insights grouped by individual cities.
State-level charts – Display insights for states, provinces, or similar administrative areas.
Country-level charts – Present coverage distribution for recognised countries.
Region-level charts – Highlight broader geographic groupings (e.g., EMEA, APAC, North America).
This structure ensures location data is organised consistently and interpreted correctly.
Geographic Spread by Country Chart
The Geographic Spread by Country chart displays the distribution of coverage across recognised countries.
Use this chart to:
Analyse which countries contribute most heavily to your coverage
Compare geographic reach at the national level
Identify gaps or concentration in country-specific reporting
A corresponding Geographic Spread by Country Map visually highlights your coverage distribution across the globe.
Geographic Spread by Region Chart
The Geographic Spread by Region chart focuses exclusively on regional groupings rather than individual countries.
Regions may include:
EMEA
APAC
LATAM
North America
Other strategic groupings used in reporting
This chart helps you understand broader geographic performance and high-level regional trends.
A paired Geographic Spread by Region Map visualises this information across world regions.
How Geographic Segmentation Works
Instant Insights automatically categorises locations based on their recognised type. This ensures:
City charts show only cities
State charts show only states or provinces
Country charts display only countries
Region charts display only regional groupings
This segmentation prevents mixed data types appearing in the same chart, resulting in clearer, more interpretable visualisations.
Where to Use Geographic Charts
Geographic charts can be added to any Instant Insights dashboard. They are especially useful when:
Monitoring global coverage
Identifying strong or underrepresented markets
Understanding where your brand or topic receives the most attention
Comparing performance across countries or regions
For example, you may place a country chart in a high-level KPI dashboard, or use a region chart in a coverage trend report for broader geographic context.
Best Practices for Using Geographic Charts
To get the most out of your geographic insights:
Use country and region charts together to compare micro and macro patterns.
Pair maps with bar charts for both visual and numeric context.
Add filters (e.g., topic, publication type, sentiment) to surface deeper geographic insights.
Use dashboard collections to track location trends across different audience segments.
